About
Since childhood I have always enjoyed being around the elderly and this has remained so throughout my life. I love the opportunity to support people who look back on their life with making sense of their life, especially the parts that have always been painful or difficult to accept. We cannot change the facts and events of our past, but the stories we have created about these events are what determines how we feel about them, what burden we have been carrying, what fears we live with, and what hopes and wishes we may still have — and these stories are always open to some editing.
I would like to support people in repairing important connections with people who are still with us or who are not. For people to have an impact on how we feel, they do not need to be present. Sometimes those who are absent in our life can be very much present in our hearts and minds; whether they’re absent because of ruptures in our relationship, circumstances, or because they have passed away; they can still have a significant impact on how we feel, and because they are not present, our conversations with them and our thoughts and feeling about them can get stuck. I would like to support people to find more healing and peace in those private internal conversations we have every day. If they are alive in our hearts and minds, our relationships with them can always shift some.
I also recognize that there are many losses that people have to grieve as their life , abilities, and circumstances change when they age. Not only have you lost so many people, but you may have lost what felt like home, lost who you believed you are, lost things you used to do, lost control over your life, and a sense of agency.
I love supporting my clients through grief, meaning-making, relationship repairs, and grappling with big questions about their life and life in general. The most important questions in life are the ones that may not have answers, but they are certainly worth asking and exploring. The challenge may not be in finding the right answers but learning to live with the uncertainties and ambiguities of these questions and life in general.
