About

Dr. Douglas Lane, Ph.D., ABPP, C.Psychol. is board certified in Clinical Psychology and Geriatric Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (see www.abpp.org). Also, he holds an appointment as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of the University of Washington School of Medicine. He instructs in the School of Nursing at Pacific Lutheran University as well. In addition, he is qualified as a Chartered Psychologist (C.Psychol.) in the United Kingdom.

 

Dr. Lane has worked in the mental health field since 1988. He completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology through the University of Kansas, with residency training in the U.S. Army at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Following service as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army (Medical Department), Dr. Lane completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry of the Yale University School of Medicine. Most recently, he completed a post-graduate degree in Health Professions Education through the School of Medicine of the University of Glasgow, Scotland. After working in the Department of Neurology at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine, Dr. Lane moved to direct the Psychology Training Clinic at Washington State University. From 2008, he worked in the Geriatrics and Long-Term Care medicine service of the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. He retired from the VA in 2024.

 

Aside from his regular work, Dr. Lane serves as a member of the medical staff for the “Seattle Seawolves,” the Seattle affiliate team of U.S. Major League Rugby. In this work, he focuses on training players in the development of mental toughness and other resilience skills, as well as on the behavioral and psychological aspects of recovering from injuries. His personal interests include time with family, equestrian sports, running, and the study of history, as well as early classical music. He is also learning to speak the indigenous Irish language.

Services

Dr. Lane’s clinical interests include general individual and couples therapy, as well as psychological assessment, with older adults. Specific areas of focus for Dr. Lane are resilience and healthy aging,  behavioral medicine interventions, mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, coping with chronic illnesses such as dementia and other health conditions, caregiver support, and lifespan developmental concerns including end of life care. Academically, Dr. Lane provides seminars on these topics to professional societies and other organizations, both locally and nationally.  He has also published on topics within his specialty.
