Jess Piper, MSW, LSWAIC

Has your life or your loved one been impacted by cancer or chronic illness? Do you feel like your disease is the only thing people see? Does your life revolve around caring for a loved one who is sick? If you answered yes, hi, I am Jess, and I might be someone you could connect with about these things. Many of the people I work with have been diagnosed and are living with a serious illness or some one they love has been diagnosed and they are a caregiver for their loved one. I provide emotional support and practical guidance to help them adjust and cope to living life with a serious or chronic illness.  Health issues like cancer and other chronic illnesses take a toll physically and emotionally on a person and the caregivers.  I help people cope feelings of depression, grief, guilt and anger that are often common in individuals and caregivers who are living with severe and chronic illness.  I work with people to develop practical strategies for managing stress, anxiety & fear as well. I also help people with body image, sexual health, medical trauma and other issues that arise from illness.
In my 5 years in healthcare, I specialized in oncology.  In my work with patients and families impacted by cancer, I have helped individuals, couples and families navigate difficult conversations around treatment decisions, end of life matters, communication, caregiver stress and many other areas.  I have also learned that people impacted by cancer and other health issues need a safe, judgement free space to express their emotions.  They need a place where the disease is not their whole identity. I provide this space for you to explore all the aspects of you and your feelings.
When health issues impact your life, it can feel like you have very little control. I want to guide you back to center and help you put the healing back in your hands. Please feel free to connect with me when you are ready. I look forward to hearing your story.

My specialties are working with individuals, families, couples and caregivers who are impacted by cancer, severe illness or chronic illness. I work with caregivers to help learn health care navigation and practical caregiving guidance, as well as coping with stress and other piece of caregiving. I help families and couples with communication around illness, treatment decisions and care decisions.
